Unclogging Your Toilet: Don't Call the Plumber Yet
64Tips for the Homeowner: How to Unclog a Toilet
Calling the
repairman or plumber
when the toilet
gets clogged can get expensive fast.
If you are homeowner,
having a couple of cheep tools
and a little
bit of know-how can help you unclog drains and clogged toilets
every time, saving time and money.
Regardless
of whether you live in a house or an apartment,
you will need a couple of inexpensive tools
to help with
your plumbing issues.
The toilet plunger is
easily the most common. They
are available in many different sizes
for use within
unclogging sink drains, bath tubs and toilets.
With these a
few items:
- a plunger
- an auger or hand operated drain snake
- and a pail.
Prior
to deciding to do anything, look
at the contents of the
bathroom bowl. If
the toilet provides
more drinking
water in it than
usual, someone could
have already blocked
the toilet and
may cause you extreme
results if
you use the toilet before
fixing the
issue. An unusual
amount of drinking
water in the bathroom
may be reason
enough for you to go
overboard on the side of extreme
caution and plunge
the toilet prior
to using it.
View
how the the water in the toilet bowl
flows after
you have flushed it. If it is not flowing
out of the toilet
during the second
flush, this
will be the time to apply the plunger and
ultizing all of your may,
plunge furiously.
If you can't obtain
the clog delved
out rapidly
enough, you
may want to do some clean-up if
the toilet flows
over.
This is where you may need a bucket. Once
you discover the water (and
other items) inside
the toilet bowl
not going down,
you should scoop them
out into
the pail so
it is easier to pump the plunger
without building
a mess.
If
none of
the helps, try the auger or plumber's snake. It is a long
coiled wire that
is easily pressed
through the several
turns of
the drain pipes. You'd
begin by pushing
one end
of the plumber's snake
into the toilet
bowl, hopefully hitting what
ever is mucking
up your toilet.By turning
the snake's handle
back and forth, the clog should break free.
Now if that doesn't work, you should call a plumber.
